Elah Valley of Israel is the topic of the newest controversy regarding an oil shale project that has generated the indignation of local people and environmental groups.

Despite the fact that their first initiative of extracting oil in this area was stopped in 2008, as the result of several environmental campaigns, officials behind oil companies seem to be confident that they will be able to exploit the region once more.

Scientist Harold Vinegar from Israel Energy Initiatives (IEI) says that the company has developed an innovative, safer, cleaner and more efficient technique which allows the extraction of 250 billion barrels of oil without any negative consequences upon the environment.

This information generated the anger of inhabitants and non-profit organizations, which insist upon the idea that Elah Valley of Israel is not the proper location for implementing tehnologies which haven't been tested yet.

Such an initiative, once approved, might imply irreparable damages, such as soil, air and water pollution.
