The companies will just be partners

Eidos is one of the most important European video game publishers and the owner of IPs such as Tomb Raider, Hitman or Kane and Lynch, making it, at least in theory, a very successful company. Sadly, practice isn't perfect and, along the years, the UK-based company hasn't been doing so good.

Luckily, the Square Enix Japanese corporation appeared a few months ago and made the stock holders of Eidos an offer they couldn't refuse, and now is the new owner of the company. But don't think this means that Eidos will become Square Enix UK or something like that, as the two revealed yesterday how the partnership would unfold.

Eidos will keep all of its assets and function as an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of the bigger Square Enix Holdings group, as revealed by the President and CEO of the Japanese corporation, Yoichi Wada. “This is an exciting beginning to what I believe will be an incredible journey. I am very happy that Phil Rogers has agreed to lead Eidos in what I see as an international marriage between our two companies, a marriage that will give birth to great things. Eidos is a content rich company and a culturally significant business to the Square Enix group.”

Phil Rogers will continue to be the CEO of Eidos, as he has been up until now, and will report only to Wada. Here are his thoughts on the new partnership: “This is a watershed moment for Eidos. We have the backing of an incredible company, which believes in our strategy and our people. In the Square Enix group, we have a parent company, which I have held in high respect for many years, with their meticulous level of perfection and unyielding directive to never compromise on quality. We have an incredible opportunity to truly deliver on our creative vision, this is a new chapter for Eidos.”

All in all, the move was great for both companies, as Eidos avoided financial problems, and Square Enix now plays an even bigger role in the video game development on a worldwide scale. Hopefully, this partnership will mean newer and better titles from the two corporations.
