Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS can take pride in having set the stage for a new market of ultra-portable computer systems. Currently known as netbooks, the company's Eee PCs have been the first to take mobile computing to the next level in terms of ultra portability. In addition, all of the currently released Eee PC netbooks have seriously contributed to Intel's overall revenues, especially since its Atom processor is featured in almost every one of these new models. On that note, it appears that time has finally come for the company's highly successful product to receive some well-deserved recognition and grab some awards in the process.

As we mentioned in several of our previous articles, ASUS' Eee PC deserves credit for having launched a new trend among computer users, which ultimately led to a new emerging market. All of the current netbooks basically feature the same tech specs and only differ in design and branding. However, having been the first of its kind, the Eee PC was bound to get some "medals" from various IT media publications, and it seems that the very first awards have already been published, despite the fact that we still have a good three months before the end of the year.

The Eee PC 901 has been awarded the "Gadget of the Year" title by Stuff TV, topping other devices such as Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PS3 and the highly anticipated iPhone 3G from Apple. For some of you it might be hard to imagine how that sub-notebook succeeded in taking home the "Gadget of the Year" award, over Apple's iPhone 3G, but according to Stuff TV the small netbook is worthy of its new title. The iPhone 3G grabbed the readers' "Gadget of the Year" award, proving what most users would prefer.

In addition, the Eee PC also managed to seriously impress the editors at PC Pro, who gave ASUS' netbook the award for "Hardware of the Year." In their own words, the Eee PC "was truly the most impressive seen in our Labs in the past 12 months."

The general reason behind the Eee PC awards is that ASUS' product managed to set a new perspective on portable computer systems, making them ideal for browsing the Internet, almost everywhere.
