ASUS is known for its significant role in the increasingly popular netbook category, as the Taiwanese company is one of the pioneers of this segment. Over the years, the company has come up with a couple of innovative designs, such as the Eee Keyboard, which the company initially announced last year, at the CES 2009 show. However, it appears that it has taken ASUS until now to finally let users have a chance of purchasing one of these devices.

According to a recent news article on PC Mag, the much-anticipated device is now expected to become available in February for a retail price of about US$499 to US$599. Given its technical specifications and all of the previous reports that the Eee Keyboard has benefited from, you should expect this to perform something in the line of a low-power nettop.

Spec-wise, the Eee Keyboard packs pretty much the same features as reported countless other times on the Internet. The device is powered by Intel's previous generation of low-power Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, paired with 1GB of non-upgradable DDR2 memory and a choice for a 16GB or 32GB SSD. As far as connectivity goes, the Eee Keyboard has been featured with VGA Out, HDMI Out and a couple of USB ports.

One of the other highlights that sets it apart from any other keyboard currently available on the market is the built-in, 5-inch touch display, which is designed to provide users with access to the various widgets and applications that will be available on the device. The display runs at a resolution of 800 by 600 pixels. According to reports, the keyboard is featured with an integrated battery pack that is capable of providing up to four hours of life.

ASUS' much-anticipated Eee Keyboard will run Microsoft's Windows XP operating system and will be available in a sleek, metallic enclosure.
