The director had been linked with the movie since 2008

One of the most anticipated Marvel projects, “Ant-Man,” receives a heavy blow as the director that been linked with the project for years is reported to have exited production, mainly due to creative differences with the studio.

Deadline reports that director Edgar Wright is no longer associated with the movie, after Marvel put out a statement yesterday announcing that the split occurred over “differences in their vision of the film.” The shocking part in that is the fact that Wright had been attached with the project for 6 years and he even took part in co-writing the script with Joe Cornish.

Considering the fact that production was about to start, his firing comes as an even bigger surprise, because few studios would have the courage to sack the man with the vision on the project so close to the start date.

Comedic actor Paul Rudd is tapped to play “Ant-Man,” a superhero with the power to change his size at will and which also has the ability to communicate with ants. Other roles in the movie are going to be played by Michael Douglas, Patrick Wilson, Michael Pena, and Evangeline Lilly.

Marvel has been careful to add that Wright's departure from the project isn't going to affect the scheduled release date for the film, which is slated to hit cinemas on July 21, 2015. A new director is expected to be announced soon.
