14 DAY TRIAL // Eddie Murphy’s affair with Scary Spice Melanie Brown was as stormy as it has been mediated. However, Angel Iris came out of it, a little girl that Eddie first refused to acknowledge and, so far, to see in person. The actor seems to have had a change of heart, as he has just agreed to pay child support to Melanie and even meet Angel Iris, News of the World is reporting.
Although the agreement is supposedly subject to a non-disclosure clause, a friend of the two stars talked to the tabloid and confirmed that, indeed, Eddie had come to terms with reality and agreed to pay child support for Angel Iris. This comes after many months spent in court, during which time Melanie Brown has struggled to convince both Murphy and the public that she had been faithful to the actor while they were still together.
“The settlement will see Murphy shell out £35,000 ($US51,000) A MONTH until daughter Iris Angel turns 18 – a total of around £7 ($US10) million. We can also reveal that Eddie has finally agreed to see his 22-month-old child. Spice Girl Mel and the Hollywood actor have spent 15 months warring in Los Angeles courts. She has been determined to force him to play a part in his child’s life.” News of the World writes in today’s issue.
“Mel is delighted that the case is over as she just wanted what was right for her girl. It was never about money – it was Mel’s way of asking Eddie to show consideration for Angel.” a source says, as quoted by the aforementioned publication. In all fairness, Melanie did ask ever since the legal dispute began for Eddie to at least see his child, especially after a DNA test showed that Angel was his and not some other man’s, as Eddie once hinted shortly after Brown announced the pregnancy.
Although Brown and Murphy’s love story did not last more than a year, it was constant tabloid fodder because of the latter’s obstinacy in admitting that the child that Melanie was carrying was not his. It was precisely this attitude that cost him many fans, which also saw his reputation take a serious tumble. Hopefully, it is currently being maintained, he will now be able to make things right again.
