Comedian and actor Eddie Murphy will reprise his role as police detective Axel Foley in the 4th part of the “Beverly Hills Cop” movie franchise. If you don't know who Axel Foley is, then you're probably too young to read this article anyway.

While this is certainly happy news for all the people who started wearing Detroit Lions jackets with the sleeves rolled up and listening to the Axel Foley theme song by Harold Faltermeyer when the movie first came out, it still remains to be seen if the new movie will rise up to the standard of its '80s counterparts.

Recent news out of Hollywood says that Paramount Pictures has partnered with Jerry Bruckheimer for 3 years and their first project is going to be the BHC reboot with Eddie Murphy as lovable cop Axel Foley.

The movie also has a director lined up – Brett Ratner. He's already worked with Murphy on “Tower Heist” and might also be known to you from the “Rush Hour” trilogy. Most recently, he's been linked to the upcoming “Hercules” film starring Dwayne Johnson.

Apparently, the “Beverly Hills Cop 4” will not take place in Beverly Hills, but will concentrate on Axel's Detroit roots, which probably leaves you wondering about the name. Maybe he will be leaving from Beverly Hills and heading back to Detroit.

This isn't the first time that the Axel Foley character was considered for a return to the screen.

It seems that there was an effort to make a TV series about Axel Foley's son working as a detective, while Axel would have been the chief of police. However, apart from a pilot, the series did not have any episodes filmed.

The main reason for this revival after some 20 years is that Bruckheimer and Paramount are banking on the huge success the first movie had when it hit theaters and also on people's nostalgia. Will this be enough to turn "Beverly Hills Cop 4" into a hit? Time will tell.
