The development team at Bigpoint announces that it has recruited Craig Scott, a former design director working on the EVE Online MMO at CCP, as the new lead designer to work on a new high profile title in the genre.

Khaled Helioui, the chief executive officer of the company, states, “We are proud to have Craig join our ranks to work on a new breed of MMO. Craig brings a genuine passion for game design and innovation for the benefit of the players, and he fits perfectly with the game development philosophy we are promoting at Bigpoint.”

He also says that other video game designers might be added to the Bigpoint team in the coming months in order to work on the mystery project.

The studio is not yet ready to offer any sort of details on the MMO it is working on, and it seems that both the theme and the core mechanics will only be revealed at a later date, probably once the game is already playable in alpha state.

Craig Scott, the new lead designer, adds, “I am happy to be with Bigpoint now. Bigpoint has major experience in the future sector of free-to-play, online games. Furthermore, I expect to have much space for trying new things, which is a premise for making really innovative games and which, of course, means a lot of fun for both the teams and the users.”

During his time at CCP working on EVE Online the developer has designed the character creation process and then moved to oversee the design of the entire experience.

The space based MMO is well-known for the incredible amount of freedom it gives to its players, who are able to define their own rules and act in a variety of surprising ways.

The game recently played host to a major battle that involved up to 300 capital ships, which took a lot of resources to create. The player driven conflict was launched after one player decided not to pay rent on an important solar system.

Craig Scott was also involved in the creation of the Dust 514 shooter spin-off, which uses the EVE Online universe to allow gamers to battle teams on enemies on a variety of planets.
