The trading system for inland nodes is also reworked

The team at the Paradox Development Studio is still working on the El Dorado expansion for Europa Universalis IV, and it seems that gamers who pick it up will be able to actually visit the fabled Seven Cities of Gold that many explorers aimed to discover over the course of history.

The most recent diary on the official forums explains that land exploration is being reworked for the New World, allowing players to take a conquistador, attach an army to him, and then send him to the American continent in order to try and reach the fabled cities.

Paradox states, “While a conquistador is exploring in this manner, a large number of events can happen - your conquistador might run out of food, trade with friendly natives, or uncover a lead on where to find one of the Seven Cities of Gold, the Fountain of Youth, or other mythical places that Europeans believed could be found somewhere in the New World.”

As more events unfold, players will be able to get access to a set of rewards or they can lose their conquistador in the process, but even the most important rewards are not designed to break the game engine but to deliver some solid bonuses for a nation.

El Dorado will also offer one extra merchant to all empires that have a colonial nation with more than 10 provinces as a subject, which will boost their trading power.

Europa Universalis IV is also getting other trade changes

Traditionally, land-based trade has been less important in the grand strategy title than naval-based merchants, and the developers are now introducing a new Caravan Power value to try and balance things out.

They state, “Caravan Power is a simple addition on the amount of power you gain in an inland node from having a merchant placed there, and is gained from the total tax value of your country up to a maximum of 50. So, a country with 30 total base tax will have +30 power in all inland nodes.”

The free patch which will accompany the launch of El Dorado for Europa Universalis IV will also introduce a wide range of dynamic historical events for the Americas, designed to make playing the Incas, the Aztecs and other nations in the area more interesting.

The expansion does not yet have an official launch date.
