Introduced in October 2010, ESPN's live streaming app was initially launched as an online software that required authentication

After the application was made available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch device in April, 2011, the company felt the need to go live with the Android iteration of the “WatchESPN.”

Basically, “WatchESPN” application allows Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks and Verizon FiOS TV subscribers to access live ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.com content on their Android phones and tablets.

Although access to the application is determined by the user's TV provider and, in some instances, their Internet service provider, customers who do not receive TV service from any of the aforementioned providers will still be able to access ESPN3, if they have high-speed Internet from Verizon.

The application features a simple user interface that takes the live viewing experience to the high-resolution, multi-touch displays of Android devices.

Some of the application's highlights include:

- Live streaming access to the top events from the ESPN family of networks (i.e. NBA Regular Season and Playoffs, Major League Baseball, The Masters and U.S. Open);

- Up-to-the-minute news, highlights and analysis with live streaming access to favorite ESPN shows (i.e. SportsCenter, SportsNation and Baseball Tonight);

- Easy-to-use search functionality for locating your favorite teams, shows and events.

The WatchESPN App is now available as a free download via Android Market and is compatible with all devices running Android 2.2 or newer.

However, ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater will be available when these networks are in season.

Users who install the application for the first time should follow the instructions received and enter the appropriate cable subscriber credentials to begin accessing ESPN content from their Android devices.

Unfortunately, judging by the number of negative feedback, it appears that the application still needs to be polished before being fully compatible with Android 2.2 Froyo devices.
