Apple has released a firmware update of MacBook Air users to improve Lion Recovery, a feature that lets you restore system software to your Mac without having to go through the hassle of using install discs or drives. The update also addresses Thunderbolt issues.

According to the company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California, “[MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.1] includes fixes that enhance the stability of Lion Recovery from an Internet connection,”

The best thing about this feature is that you don’t have to turn the house upside down to find your Lion install DVDs to get your Mac back up and running.

In fact, you couldn’t anyway since Lion doesn’t come on discs. Instead, users download it from the Mac App Store. Apple also distributes the new OS via thumb drive as a physical copy.

As noted above, the new firmware update also “resolve issues with Apple Thunderbolt Display compatibility and Thunderbolt Target Disk Mode performance on MacBook Air (mid 2011) models.”

“The MacBook Air EFI Update will update the EFI firmware on your notebook computer,” Apple explains.

The Mac maker elaborates, informing the less technically savvy population that their computer's power cord must be “connected and plugged into a working power source.”

“When your MacBookAir restarts, a gray screen will appear with a status bar to indicate the progress of the update,” the company adds. “It will take several minutes for the update to complete. Do not disturb or shut off the power on your MacBookAir during this update.”

With the update successfully installed, the Mac’s Boot ROM Version should be MBA41.88Z.0077.B08.1109011050, this being a tidbit Apple throws in for the power user types.

MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.1 will only apply to OS X Lion, and it supports several languages, including Deutsch, English, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Português Brasileiro, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
