The development team at PopCap Games and publisher Electronic Arts announce that they are now including microtransactions in Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare in order to give players more options when it comes to content acquisition and how they spend their in-game time.

An official announcement on the site of the title states that, “players will be given the option to purchase coins from the Sticker Shop, which allows players the ability to access new packs and character content more quickly – all the same content that can be earned through regular gameplay.”

The team adds, “Now you have the choice to play your way; you can play to get new packs and content via earned coins in the game, or you can purchase coins to get more of the packs and content you want right away.”

The development team at PopCap Games has just launched the Zomboss Down content pack for the game, which was entirely free for players who bought the game, as was all the DLC that was delivered until now.

The company also says that it has improved the balance of the video game in order to make sure that players have the best experience possible.

Gardens & Graveyards scoring has been changed to better match scores between plants and zombies, while bonuses are now offered in Garden Ops for solo and two-player matches.

Support actions are also now more attractive for gamers because PopCap Games is introducing some new coin rewards for their deployment.

The team has not said whether it plans to deliver any other downloadable content for the title and whether it will have an attached price tag.

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare takes the core content of the casual title and mixes it with a shooter structure and the resulting game manages to keep the humor of the first title in the series, while also introducing a variety of team-based mechanics and some interesting boss challenges.

PopCap Games has already said that it has long-term plans for the Plants vs Zombies franchise, which might see it explore other genres.

Electronic Arts has been one of the video game companies that has sought to expand monetization for its title with microtransactions despite some negative reactions from the player community.

It will be interesting to see how Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare fans react to their introduction and if they will continue to play the title in the long term.
