The gaming industry has grown so much in the last couple of years that it has become the focus of many companies that disregarded it as a worthy income source. Today, there are so many gaming platforms that it’s hard not to own at least two, especially that mobile gaming is one of the best sources of income.

Once game developers discovered the smartphone market and the opportunities it has to offer, mobile gaming has become a huge industry. Now anyone owning a smartphone or a table plays a game, even if it’s just for a very short time.

The amazing growth of the gaming industry did not go unnoticed by large companies like Electronics Arts, Square Enix and a few others. Speaking during the 2015 Technology, Internet & Media Conference, EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen implied that tablets would soon become more powerful than consoles.

It's hard to believe that tablets could become more powerful than current consoles

Here is what Jorgensen said according to Gamespot: “What gets us the most excited is the power, the computing power, of mobile devices and the speed at which that's growing. What that might mean is that a tablet, three or four years from now, has more power than what a typical console has.

“And that will open up a whole new set of people to console-style games that are much more immersive, much deeper, much more character-driven than simply a static mobile game that you might play for a small burst of time while you're waiting for the bus.”

Even though we can already play some games on consoles and tablets, the hardware gap between the two platforms is quite large and it’s unlikely that it will tighten in just a few years.

In the same piece of news, unfortunately, Jorgensen’s statements are a bit ironical in light of the recent layoffs at EA Mobile in Montreal. What do you think about the evolution of mobile gaming?
