THQ and Jakks Pacific are announcing that they are collaborating on creating yet another videogame in the long running WWE series. The new game is being developed for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS and the release date has been set for fall 2009. Until now, the series is said to have shipped no less than 47 million copies of its various iterations.

THQ has also unveiled the cover for the upcoming WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010, with five of the biggest names in the sport banding together to lend their star power to the videogame. The publisher promises that full details related to the title will be delivered at the SummerSlam event which is set to take place in Los Angeles on August 23, 2009. Until then, we will have to be content with the cover shot and with some initial details.

Brian Coleman, who is the vice president of global brand management at THQ, said that “John Cena, Undertaker, Randy Orton, Edge and Rey Mysterio are incredible WWE Superstars who represent the athleticism, creativity, individuality and strength of today’s live WWE programming. These powerful traits symbolize our vision to give players extensive creative freedom and make WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 the most authentic, entertaining and compelling simulation of live WWE programming to date.”

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 should offer more freedom for players, with new mechanics implemented to allow more moves to be pulled and more spectacular finishers. It would not be a surprise to see the game take some cues from another THQ franchise, UFC 2009, which has seen quite good sales with its first title, Undisputed. Recently, that game went over 2 million units sold less than one month since it initially appeared on store shelves.
