The new monster really changes the core of the title

Evolve was one of the loudest attendees on the floor of the E3 2014 trade show, with an eSports tournament that ended just as the event was about to end, and once I managed to get some time with the game, I realized that the screams of the fans were mostly justified.

I spent most of my time with the game playing as the new Kraken monster, who is designed to be totally different from the already revealed Goliath.

The creature can fly and really excels when it has the time to position itself, launch a barrage of ranged attacks and then quickly move away before the hunter team has a chance to respond.

On the ground, the Kraken is weak, but it can still try to sneak around in order to limit its footprints.

The monster can also use lightning-powered abilities, including mines, an explosion and a powerful vortex, in order to try and split up the hunter team and then hunt them one by one.

The biggest problem with the Kraken is that it's harder to find a spot to hide and evolve, even if it is easier to take out both fauna and the enemy players from distance than moving up close and personal like the Goliath needed to do.

The new hunter line-up that Turtle Rock revealed for Evolve at E3 2014 is also designed to significantly change the game's experience, especially when players get to use the Lazarus, who is so effective at keeping his team alive that he might need to be nerfed before the official launch date.

The title will include three versions for each of the four character classes at launch and there are another two monsters that the development team is set to reveal in the coming months.

The video game experience created by Turtle Rock also runs smooth and with quality visuals, even if there's some more optimization to be done before the title is actually launched, and the studio has managed to create an effective way of offering clues about the way the battle is going.

The audio design is also impressive and really serves to underline the constant pressure that the game puts players under.

Evolve will be launched on October 21 of this year and gamers will be able to get it for the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony, although there are no plans to deliver cross-platform play.
