Dyne:bolic, the Live CD Linux distribution packed-up with a collection of multimedia software, reached version 2.5.1 Dhoruba, as announced by Denis "Jaromil" Rojo.

On Dhoruba you will find new features, like support for Java, numerous bugfixes and fast support for network booting of thin clients with bootp/pxe.

Ekiga is no longer included, but the Iaxvomm and Kiax phone applications are preconfigured to work with Blasterisk, the experimental Indymedia telephone service. Mplayer and Xorg were updated, and the documentation is being modified to reflect the current setup in detail, but also to facilitate customizations and translations.

At this moment there are some interesting modules for Dyne:bolic, like cross-compiling kits for NintendoDS and software notation applications.

If you didn't already know, Dyne:bolic GNU/Linux is a live bootable CD, containing a complete operating system, that can be installed - if you want - on your computer by copying the /dyne directory on your machine. It is ideal for older computers, like a Pentium I or equivalent with 64MB of RAM. Also if you have a modded XBOX game console, you can run Dyne:bolic on that too! If you have more than one device, you can create clusters.

Dyne:bolic recognizes your hardware devices and offers many applications for multimedia production, such as: audio and video manipulation, 3D modelling, photography, composition and synthesis, veejaying, desktop publishing etc. It comes with a set of tools for web browsing, anonymity, and peer to peer filesharing and encryption. I forgot to mention that it is equipped with some word processing tools.

Dyne:bolic was started six years ago, including code from hundreds of programmers all around the world, with a strong community made up of artists, teachers and developers.

All software included on this distribution is free, and the aim of Dyne:bolic is to share independent knowledge, while keeping away from commercial speculations and corporations.

You can download Dyne:bolic 2.5.1 Dhoruba right now from Softpedia!
