The patch also adds a number of performance fixes

Techland has issued a new update for its first-person zombie survival game Dying Light, solving a number of issues and restoring modding.

The latest title update enables modders to once more toy around with the game files unhindered. The previous patch made it difficult for the modding community to do its thing, which caused many gamers to be quite vocal about the fact that they wanted to be able to create mods.

Polish developer Techland was quick to respond, stating that the issue was inadvertently introduced, and that they embraced the modding community and even intended to release some free modding tools somewhere down the line.

The new patch unblocks mods, enabling users who own them to use them in both single player and multiplayer, with the only condition for alterations to work being that everyone has everything installed (the exact same mods are required).

A ton of needed fixes

Another major change introduced in the update is a fix for the infinite spit exploit in Be the Zombie, Dying Light's asymmetrical multiplayer mode, pitting a team of four survivors against a deadly night hunter, controlled by a fifth player.

In addition to these more visible fixes, update 1.4.0 also introduces a number of performance and stability issues, and reduces RAM usage by a significant amount.

Furthermore, the update also offers the option for players to disable the film grain video effect overlay.

For the time being, it remains to see how the mod limitations in multiplayer will affect the game. Many users are already asking for it to be removed, as not everyone wants to use mods and it's difficult to find people with the exact same ones installed.
