A great start for Techland's latest zombie survival game

Developer Techland has revealed that a number of 1.2 million people have played Dying Light since it was released last week.

The information comes from a tweet from the studio, stating that it registered 1.2 million unique players "smashing zombies and loving it," which is quite an impressive feat.

The game was released digitally worldwide, across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms, but the physical edition for consoles was postponed in several territories, including Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

Truth be told, the game is pretty fun and delivers on gameplay mechanics, and even though it fails to innovate in any way, it offers a satisfying and solid experience.

It has a very good parkour engine that enables you to navigate around the city in style, scaling the buildings and jumping from rooftop to rooftop, and it also has a decent storyline to explore.

The bread and butter of the experience, however, is using a wide variety of melee weapons to hit zombies over the head with, and Dying Light delivers in this aspect, making them just as hard to kill as necessary for things to get challenging without being overly difficult.

Can't wait for the modders to start churning out content

The best thing about it is that, like its predecessor Dead Island, it will also enjoy a lot of love from modders, who will no doubt come up with crazy ways to enhance the game.

After a bit of drama surrounding a mod being taken down from file sharing websites due to a Digital Millennium Copyright Act notice, developer Techland stated that it embraced the enthusiasm of the modding community and was excited to see what users would create.

Dead Island prolonged its life on PC well beyond what its console editions managed to pull off mainly due to the numerous player-made add-ons, toying with the base experience and enhancing it in many creative ways.
