Officials are at a loss at how to shut the thing down

Art has never shied away from shocking people, exploring taboo subjects, and pushing the boundaries of what is considered "normal" or "appropriate." So an art installation that plays recordings from "adult" movies through outdoor speakers doesn't seem that avant-garde.

Unless, of course, said art installation was supposed to play recordings of natural sounds from and around the location.

The story goes that hackers managed to take control over the project and play another kind of natural sounds, most often found in the bedroom than on the street.

This is what, allegedly, happened to the Cultuurmijl's Acoustical Journey installation in Enschede, the Netherlands, as you can see, or rather hear, in this video [link is NSFW unless you're wearing headphones, so discretion is advised].

Apparently, city officials are at a loss on how to turn off the system, which has been playing the new sounds for a week now, and are suggesting ways of isolating the speakers at least. There are some doubts whether the video is actually real, though the prank certainly sounds plausible.
