General Dynamics Itronix announced the release of the follow-up of the Duo-Touch Tablet PC, the latest product in a long line of fully rugged tablet PCs, the Duo-Touch II. Designed in environmentally-challenging work environments, Duo-Touch II Tablet PC provides secure and reliable mobile computing. It allows you to switch effortlessly between active digitizer and passive touchscreen operations, through its duo-touch operating modes. And it also seems to be the smallest and lightest rugged Tablet PC available.

The new Duo-Touch II Tablet PC incorporates the wireless performance and capabilities of rugged notebooks, along with the best Tablet-PC capabilities and engineering designs. General Dynamics perfected the best attributes of two generations of Tablet PCs for high performance mobile applications. The Duo-Touch II Tablet PC is ideal for field applications in industries such as insurance, telecommunications, public safety or commercial field service. It can also provide reliability, portability and interoperability needed for successful mission accomplishment in military operations.

Duo-Touch II Tablet PC is lightweight and ergonomic and has the rugged and weatherized capabilities, as it can be operated even underwater. Another feature is the ultra-viewable touchscreen display in all ambient conditions, including direct sunlight. Duo-Touch II Tablet PC is designed to provide dependable connectivity across the spectrum of the wireless networks with its four integrated wireless technologies. It enables you to work anywhere, for it weights only 4 lbs and has a convenient size (10.6" x 7.2" x 1.65").

Although it is so small, the Intel Core Duo processor offers enough power with amazingly low power consumption. Its optimized efficient computing and breakthrough dual-core performance can keep field-deployed, mission-critical workers productive and online. The dual-core processor is optimized for multitasking and multithreaded applications. The dual-touch screen gives the user an easy selectable dual-touch interface on a single machine. While the passive touchscreen mode can be used for simple navigation or other custom applications, the active digitizer allows accurate signature capture and adding notes to drawings or maps.

The Core-Duo processor has the clock set at 1.2GHz. Duo-Touch II Tablet PC allows you to use a maximum of 2GB of RAM and it features 3G support and GPS, in addition to the usual bluetooth and wireless connections. The die-case magnesium unit meets and even exceeds MIL-STD 810F durability standards and keeps water and dust out. The new Tablet PC will be launched in March and it's supposed to demand about $3,595, when it becomes available. General Dynamics Itronix offers a three-year total-solution service and support for its Duo-Touch II Tablet PC.
