The weird mix of roguelike and tower defense going by the name of Dungeon of the Endless has recently gotten its last resource type implemented, adding science to the three already existing ones.

Dungeon of the Endless is being developed by Amplitude Studios, and it presents a wholly different experience than the dev's last title, Endless Space, a pretty self-explanatory 4X strategy game.

This time around, instead of being tasked with creating a universe-spanning empire, players will simply be exploring some dungeons and heading for the planet's surface, while making sure that their crashed spaceship's generator remains in working order, with death patiently waiting around every corner.

Dungeon of the Endless's main gameplay mechanic seems to be inspired by TV game shows, as "what's behind the door" is the main question that players will answer throughout the game. The beautifully detailed and vividly colored pixel graphics are similar to the aposematic displays seen in the animal kingdom, where small animals signal a warning to potential predators through a similarly striking bright coloration.

The game is currently available through Steam Early Access, and with patch 0.2.0 adding science as a new resource, the food-industry-dust-science cycle introduced in Endless Space is now complete.

Science will now allow players to find certain artifacts scattered throughout the dungeon's rooms, serving in the research of new modules, which can now be leveled up with Endless Artifacts up to four times.

The newest update also added some keyboard shortcuts as well as introducing a couple of changed key configurations for specific keyboards. A couple of new gameplay elements have also been thrown into the mix, adding Aftershave, a Hipster Scarf and Ahhrrrmani Suit as new items with special skills and improving the notification system and module tooltips.

Some balancing fixes have been implemented into the game, increasing its overall difficulty but reducing it on level 1, altering the price and power of non-common items and reducing the spawn probability of some of the more powerful ones.

Furthermore, a new score calculation formula has been devised, based on the number of doors opened, mobs killed, heroes lost and other factors, taking time out of the equation and now displaying it as a second value.

The devs point out that it will be almost impossible to research all the modules in the game, a feature that will serve in diversifying each playthrough and encourage more careful decision making, allowing players to choose between specializing or diversifying their array of modules.
