STRIDA is light, portable and cool

Dude, check this out! Foldable bicycles are the must-have in the eco-wacko vehicle area. The fold-able bicycle concept is a new and rather weird appearance on the market. The STRIDA bike uses a design line that's said to be the "first completely new bicycle geometry in 95 years".

Funny thing, the makers emphasize on the part that STRIDA was not designed for stunt riding, jumping or wheels! Yeah, like anyone would try that when commuting? The makers claim that 16" wheels are just perfect for a "smoother and safer ride than those folding bikes with much smaller wheels".You can have one if you're working for the circus or if you want to be the office's eccentric or plain wacko.

However, STRIDA is a fold-up bike made out of a light-weight triangular frame. It only weighs 10 kilos and folds in a couple of seconds to fit in small places, so I guess you can take it with you inside those huge supermarkets.

The bike's frame is constructed from 7000 series powder-coated aluminum, that's said to be rustproof, rugged and protected by the maker's lifetime warranty. It has injection moulded 16-inch wheels, which can be changed without removing the wheels. The 100% green vehicle comes with an extra performance kit, which is a group of upgrades for the STRIDA included in the box to assure weather protection, and to reduce cubic folded size by 57%. The kit includes folding pedals, mudguards, folding racks and more.

As Gizmag observes, STRIDA uses an upright seating position and horizontally mounted handlebars to keep the rider connected to what happens in traffic. Moreover, behind the hand-built foldable STRIDA there is an English designer and engineer, namely Mark Sanders, who actually won a folding bike championship. When did they come up with such a thing?

Two STRIDA models are available on the market, the 22lbs (10kg) and the 19.4lbs (9kg). Hold on tight! The bikes cost around USD$499 and USD$799, respectively! Still interested?
