Indian carrier Idea Cellular has just launched yet another affordable Android smartphone, the ID 4000. The smartphone is now available for purchase via Idea Cellular brick and mortar stores and major authorized retailers.

Potential customers can pick this budget-friendly smartphone up for only Rs 4,999 outright, which is about $85 or €60. Aside from the mildly decent specs that customers will get buying the ID 4000, Idea Cellular will also throw in some nice offerings.

According to India Today, consumers who purchase the ID 4000 smartphone will also receive 1.6GB of 3G data for free, along with Idea TV service for 3 months with a special recharge of Rs 259 ($4.3 / €3.1), slightly more for new subscribers (Rs 261 / $4.3 / €3.2).

Moving on to the specs, Idea Cellular’s ID 4000 comes with dual-SIM capability with dual-standby support, which was to be expected, give the fact that it’s a smartphone aimed at the Indian market.

This may be the only positive aspect of the smartphone, as ID 4000 handset doesn’t stand out when it comes to specs. First of all, it ships with the older Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, without any chances of being upgraded to a newer version.

On the inside, Idea ID 4000 is equipped with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 512MB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

In fact, those who decide to go for the Idea ID 4000 should buy an SD Card as well, otherwise they will run out of storage very fast.

Idea ID 4000 also sports a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 240 x 320 pixels resolution, as well as a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

The smartphone lacks a secondary camera for video calls, but it does come with 3G support, as well as other connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB and GPS with A-GPS.

“Our strategy of proliferating data services through the sale of affordable 3G smartphones has worked well for us, and hence we will continue to build on our devices portfolio.

A large base of Indian consumers want affordable, yet, feature rich smartphones to experience 3G and mobile internet. !d 4000 will address this demand in the market and enable 2G users to upgrade to 3G in our key 3G markets,” said Sashi Shankar, chief marketing officer, Idea Cellular.
