Good news for Android fans in India, as HTC has just introduced another mid-range smartphone, the Desire 626G+. The new handset is available for purchase beginning next week for Rs 16,900 outright, which is about $270 or €255.

HTC Desire 626G+ might sound like a completely new smartphone, but this is in fact the Indian version of the Desire 626 that's been announced by HTC back in February.

However, the launch of HTC Desire 626 in Taiwan went a little bit unnoticed a few months ago. It's also worth mentioning that even though this is the Indian version of the Desire 626, beside the slightly different name, it also comes with different specs.

For example, HTC Desire 626G+ will not provide LTE support, but it will offer dual-SIM feature, which is mandatory for the Indian market.

The mid-range smartphone will go on sale on April 13

According to HTC, its mid-range Android smartphone sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

On the inside, the Desire 626G+ is equipped with a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek processor, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Users will be able to further expand storage up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Another selling point of HTC's smartphone is the 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features LED flash and full HD video recording. There's also a secondary 5-megapixel camera in the front for video calls and selfies.

Sadly, the Desire 626G+ is powered by a 2,000 mAh battery, which is kind of low for a smartphone these days. Another downside might be the fact that it ships with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, instead of Lollipop.

We expect this smartphone to be introduced in other Asian countries in the coming months, though it might go on sale under different names.
