Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has made official a new Android-based handset for the Chinese market, in the form of HTC Desire 616.

The new device has been announced with dual-SIM capabilities, as well as with hardware specs in line with what users can find inside mid-range handsets today.

The company was rumored before to plan the release of a Desire 616 smartphone, while also said to pack it with an octa-core processor, and it appears that all of these have finally panned out today.

According to an article on hk-android.info, the new device has been made official with a 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek 6592 processor packed inside, which should ensure quite decent performance levels.

At the same time, the mobile phone will arrive on shelves with 1GB of RAM inside, as well as with 4GB of internal memory. A microSD memory card slot will provide users with the possibility to add up to 32GB of external storage space to the device.

The hardware specifications of this smartphone are also said to include an 8-megapixel rear camera, most probably with full HD video recording capabilities. At the same time, the handset sports a 2MP front camera, which should prove great when it comes to snapping selfies or making video calls.

HTC Desire 616 has also been announced with a 5-megapixel touchscreen display, which will be able to boast only a 720p resolution. However, that should be enough for the market segment this device is aimed at.

The mobile phone is powered by a 2000mAh replaceable battery. However, no specific info on the usage times it can deliver has been provided for the time being.

The new HTC smartphone measures 142 x 71.9 x 9.15mm and weighs 150 grams. The handset arrives on shelves with the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, the aforementioned news site claims.

Moreover, it appears that HTC has decided to pack the new device with a Lite version of its Sense 5.5 user interface, though it’s yet uncertain what exactly the software has to offer in terms of features.

Apparently, the mobile phone maker has unveiled the new dual-SIM HTC Desire 616 with a price tag of HK$2,298 ($296/€218) attached to it.

Unfortunately, no specific info on its possible arrival outside China has been provided as of now, though we assume that the company will unveil such details sooner rather than later, so keep an eye on this space for additional details on the matter.
