Owners of Android-based tablet PCs out there will soon be able to type on their devices much easier than before, courtesy of a new virtual keyboard that is currently under development.

Called Dryft, it comes from a company founded by Randy Marsden, who is one of the original founders of Swype, and Robert Chaplinsky, co-founder and managing director of venture capital firm Bridgescale Partners.

The new Dryft keyboard is meant to provide users with natural and fast typing capabilities, through “bringing words to users’ fingertips.”

The main features of the new application include Touch Tap, a Dynamic Keyboard, and Intelligent Language Modeling.

Dryft will arrive with a patented touch tap technology packed inside, which is capable of detecting whether the tablet user is indeed typing a word when touching the keys, or is simply resting on the screen.

Basically, people will be able “to rest their fingers on home row keys before typing any letters,” the company explains on its website.

Dryft also comes with the first finger tracking system in the industry, none other than the aforementioned patented dynamic keyboard

“Dryft tracks the user's fingers while resting on the glass. With Dryft technology, the home row keys automatically come to your fingers and you don't have to search for those home row keys anymore,” the company notes.

Furthermore, the keyboard offers support for a variety of existing language models, which should offer disambiguation when it comes to inaccurate typing.

On top of that, Dryft is capable of minimizing these errors before they even occur. It also adapts to users’ typing style, thus lowering the need for auto-corrections.

“The Dryft keyboard is transparent and configurable, allowing you to see both the keys and the content below it,” the company continues.

Apparently, the company is planning on licensing the app on various operating systems out there, so as to benefit from expanded availability.

Dryft is not ready for release just yet, but it should be sometime next year. In the meantime, however, you can learn more on what it is all about through the video embedded below.
