He erroneously fell asleep and spent the night in the container

A man from China was about to be unwittingly shipped off to the United Stated after a night of drunken partying.

According to CirCa, Jiang Wu was staying at a Bed & Breakfast in Qingdao, Eastern China. It could have been a prank or perhaps an idea that he got the night before, but he ended up straying from his hotel room and into the harbor.

He told the police that he had been out on the town drinking and did not know where he was when he called them to let them know that he was stuck on a ship, in a container.

Said container was bound for an 11,000-mile (17,700-km) trip to Los Angeles that would have lasted for two weeks.

Wu woke up inside it and was confused about his whereabouts. I guess he gathered from his surroundings that he was inside a locked box on a ship.

Thankfully, he had his cell phone with him and it was fully charged and getting optimum signal for him to dial authorities.

"The container was sealed and he couldn't get out so he called everyone he knew for help and called us too," a police spokesman explains.

However, he had no idea of knowing the number of the box so officials had to unload all of them in order to find him.

"His problem was, though, that he couldn't tell us which container he was in and there were thousands of them stacked on top of each other," the police rep recalls.

The police were pressed for time as the container ship was about to set sail, but they managed to locate him one hour before the scheduled departure.

He was inside a sealed crate stacked 60 feet (18 meters) in the air. They got to him because he banged on the metal walls, guiding them to his location throughout the search.

“He's very lucky. If he'd been asleep for another hour the next stop would have been America,” a dock worker comments, as reported by Daily Mail.
