Evenflow Inc. has been busy working on the web-specific features of Dropbox, its backup & sync software application available for Mac, Windows and Linux. Adding close to a dozen new features and enhancements, the interface can be accessed by Dropbox account-holders at www.getdropbox.com.

Dropbox is cross-platform, meaning it works on both PC and Mac, as well as on Internet-capable portables. This way, you can install the software on any system, feed Dropbox some files, and see them synced across all your devices. Those files are instantly available to view, edit or do whatever you need to do with them. If you delete a file on a device, the changes are reflected on the others. You can have Dropbox working for you on as many systems as you wish, including your iPhone (web-based).

According to a blog post signed Jon Ying of the Dropbox team, the list below includes just some of the new features available with the web interface of Dropbox.

- Prettier! (we hope?); - Multi-select on file browser; - True bulk operations (with progress bar for large file operations); - The ability to download zip files of arbitrary sets of files/folders; - Search on the file browser; - Significant improvements to navigation; - GMail style keyboard shortcuts (!); - Mobile optimized version of the site (for non-iPhone users); - Countless UI/usability improvements; - New Getting Started tab (check it out for a surprise!).

“Those of you who have been with us since our prehistoric days know how much the page has evolved over time– updating the site is always a work in progress,” Ying adds. “Like the previous designs, the impetus for this one came pretty spontaneously. I was sitting at my computer and thought ‘this site’s kinda… ugly.’ [...] The result is what you see on www.getdropbox.com. Nearly every page and design goes through the process listed above, and we like to think that it’s served us well for the past year,” Ying concludes.

The Mac OS X desktop client has been updated as well. Dropbox 0.6.565 includes mostly fixes, one of which targets reports that the menu-bar icon became unresponsive on Snow Leopard. It also aims to fix a rare issue involving Dropbox not syncing behind certain proxies.
