Dropbox, a client for an online service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere, has just received a new update for the experimental branch of the application, raising the version number to 2.7.51.

The Dropbox developers haven't decided yet to elevate the experimental version to stable and it seems that they don't plan on doing that too soon. Another update has arrived for the experimental branch with a number of fixes and some improvements.

As usual, the Linux users don't have anything to look up to, even if some of the fixes and improvements might also apply to the Linux platform. In any case, there is no indication that, for example, the auto sign-in installers will ever be released in the Linux version.

According to the changelog, an issue where a second account would be unlinked after changing email address has been fixed. This problem has been plaguing the Dropbox users (even the Linux ones) for some time, but keep in mind that this is not the stable version. If you are using Dropbox stable, it will be a while until this fix lands in that particular branch.

Also, the flow is now working better when choosing an existing Dropbox path in advanced settings during setup, the robustness of the application for the auto sign-in installers has been improved, new translations have been added, and a number of other smaller fixes have been implemented.

“If you want to help us test this, unlink your Dropbox from preferences or uninstall Dropbox. Then click one of the links below. If you're not signed into dropbox.com you'll be asked to sign in, then the small installer will download. The install should automatically sign you into Dropbox on your computer! Note: If your Dropbox is very large (+300,000 files) we don't recommend doing this,” said the developers in the official changelog.

Also, keep in mind that Linux users don't have access to binary files of the latest Dropbox client. This means that you will only get the source file and you will have to compile it by yourself. If you already have another version installed, you will need to purge it and start from the beginning.

Check out the official announcement for more details about this release. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
