Dropbox 2.6.33, a client for an online service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere, has received another update for the experimental branch and is now available for download.

After the Dropbox developers released a large number of experimental versions, a new stable build has been made available. This is not a major update and only comes with a small number of fixes, and none of them is specific to the Linux platform.

According to the changelog, a rare infinite connecting error has been corrected, users can now move Dropbox to a second hard drive without any issues, and a notification message that couldn't be dismissed has been fixed.

The 2.6 branch of Dropbox has been around for a long time, and it comes with a number of established features, like dual account support, a redesigned Setup Wizard, Pause Syncing from the tray icon, new Installers for Windows and OS X, and an improved Sync UI that is significantly more responsive.

As you can see, the Linux platform has been largely ignored by the recent updates for the application and some of the interesting fixes that have been implemented in the experimental release haven't been brought into the stable version.

For example, the experimental release finally fixed the problem with the indicator for Ubuntu and Unity. Users who now get Dropbox on their Ubuntu systems, no matter the release, also have to install a 32-bit library in order to have access to the indicator and the application itself.

This has been an inconvenience at most for Ubuntu users, but it's a simple fix and it could be easily implemented in the stable release if the devs ever decide to. So far it seems that the Dropbox developers have no interest into releasing the 2.7 branch as stable, so it will take some time to get the Linux fixes. The solution is to compile the latest Linux release for yourself.

Also, keep in mind that Linux users don't have access to binary files of the latest Dropbox client, unlike the users of other operating systems who do receive binary files. This means that you will only get the source package and you will have to compile it by yourself. If you already have another build installed, you will need to purge it and start from the beginning.
