We're going through a very bad period right now as far as the economy is concerned, so, for most people, driving a Porsche is currently a far-away dream. However, those people who would have really loved to sit behind the wheel of a Carrera now have the opportunity to enjoy the next-best thing, since the German company Fanatec has just announced the launch of its Porsche 911 Carrera Racing Wheel for PC and PlayStation 3.

As you might remember from one of our previous articles regarding Fanatec (that time around, they were bringing the Porsche experience to the Xbox 360), this not particularly well-known manufacturer of gaming accessories has a very solid licensing contract with Porsche Lizenz- und Handelsgesellschaft mbH, which ensures the fact that all of its driving accessories will replicate in detail their real-life counterparts.

The Porsche 911 Carrera Racing Wheel for PC and PlayStation 3 has been designed to deliver an authentic car racing experience, features an interchangeable gear stick (6 + 1 Speed) that can be mounted on either side of the wheel, realistic clutch pedal with declining resistance and a Mabuchi RS 550 force feedback motor. Plus, the device also sports an adjustable turning angle (up to 900°), a tuning function that allows gamers to change force feedback during gameplay, and an extra large wheel rim of 300mm in diameter crafted from high-quality TPE rubber.

Moreover, in order to ensure the fact that the Fanatec Porsche 911 Carrera Racing Wheel will not go flying off the table in the middle of a heated race, the device has been equipped with strong table clamps (with quick release), special non-slip rubber pads and VELCRO strips on the pedals.

The new Porsche wheels from Fanatec are available just for pre-order for the time being (for 130 US dollars, on the company's website), with the first models being scheduled to arrive in users' homes at some point in the middle of February 2009.
