An amazing dress made of smartphones has been shown at London Fashion Week recently and it's viewed as the world’s first interactive article of clothing.

For the creation of this dress, designer duo “Fyodor Golan” (Fashion Fringe winners Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydma) collaborated with Kin Design and Nokia. The garment is created from 80 Lumia 1520 smartphones, a device that was launched recently and has proved to be very popular among fashionistas and fashion journalists.

The skirt's displays show static pictures captured by the phones alternated with live feeds giving the impression of swishing fabric. Creators say that an application especially designed for this outfit makes sure this shimmering is synchronized with the wearer's movement.

“The dress is built using movement and tile effect that we saw whilst backpacking in Myanmar and Cambodia as inspiration. […] The colour changes as the skirt moves and the idea of making the screens react to the word around it via photographs and video is something that we do not think has been done before,” explain the designers, as reported by London Evening Standard.

Matt Wade, director of Kin, the company that built the dress, said the most difficult part while putting together the new outfit was to coordinate all the devices and technology so they could be worn and give integrity to the dress.

The innovative piece of clothing has been developed with the aid of engineering tools and prototyping tools such as 3D printing and laser cutting, which were used to expand on the initial design.

“This is about exploring the boundaries of technology and fashion. It’s more of a piece of art. Innovation is what sets people apart,” says Annie Kearney of Nokia.

The entire creation process took around three months and Fyodor Golan plan to work with Nokia again in 2015 for the Spring and Summer fashion shows.
