There was some rumor today regarding a possible new launch of a Sega console, Dreamcast 2, to be more specific. All this started after some gamers across the Internet have spotted an updated trademark of the Dreamcast title that described "home video game machines; player-operated electronic controllers for electronic video game machines; video game interactive controller, namely, hand held pads, and floor pads or mats; joysticks for video games; computer cursor control devices, namely, computer mouse; flash memory cards; video game software, computer game programs".

Of course, after such a great finding, everybody believed that Sega are going to enter the hardware industry again and please their fans with a new, improved version of the gaming console. However, gamedaily.com have talked to Sega officials and, it seems, the rumors are not true.

"Sega has no plans to get back into the console business," said Sega of America PR Director Charlie Scibetta. "We're very happy being a platform agnostic company and have moved up the ranks the past three years from #11, to #9, and now stand at #6 in terms of our market share by units among third-party publishers. We like our current strategy and have no plans to change in the middle of this outstanding growth." However, Scibetta didn't know about the trademark update reasons and is said to be looking into the situation. Still, the chances for this dream to come true are pretty slim.

The Sega Dreamcast console is still highly appreciated by people all over the world and, even though Sega have stopped producing it in 2001, games were still developed for it and had an overall great success, that finally made Sega to start distributing it again via their online shop starting 2006. Until now, there are over 300 titles available for Dreamcast and fans all over the world really wish to see a next gen version of it. But Sega doesn't.
