Developer Peoleo has started the crowdfunding campaign for launching their upcoming augmented-reality trading card game, Drakerz – Confrontation, the first such creation in the world, in North America.

Drakerz – Confrontation is an online card battling game where players take on the role of Drakerz, riders of Drakos, mythical half-dragon, half-chimera creatures, and then engage in epic duels.

The game is the first ever tactical card game with an augmented-reality component on PCs, and the main difference between Drakerz and other card games that are either entirely digital or entirely physical is that it allows players to enjoy the best of both worlds.

As such, all point scoring and card cost management is done entirely on the computer, freeing players to focus on the essentials of combat. The PC component is a free-to-play online augmented-reality engine that makes use of players' webcams to transition the legendary Drakos from the physical cards to the digital arena.

Although the game requires an Internet connection in order to be fully enjoyed, it is also completely playable in single-player, offering a variety of duels against the computer in the story mode, exploring the magical world of Oniris, a parallel universe where magic and fantasy come to life in an esoteric waking-dream state.

The game was launched last year throughout Europe, and now French-based Peoleo Entertainment intends to expand its audience by releasing the game in the United States, by broadening and enhancing the core Drakerz – Confrontation experience.

Each card has a special effect, from creating armor to casting spells that enhance your Drakos or weaken your enemy, and when players show the cards to their webcam, the codes printed on them will create animated sequences on the computer.

In addition to the enhanced webcam version, the game also has a purely virtual version for players to enjoy, and the best thing about it is that the game can also be enjoyed offline, using just the actual cards, like any other trading card game out there.

Drakerz – Confrontation is 90 percent complete and has a beta available through either Steam or the Drakerz website. The game will be completely free to play, and the funds raised through the Kickstarter campaign will be used in order to tweak the game's engine and to enhance the artwork on the cards.

The company has also laid out several stretch goals which will translate into further enhancements for the augmented-reality trading card game, should they be met.
