The development team at BioWare working on the new Keep service which will be launched alongside Dragon Age: Inquisition says that the new idea has been in development for some time and is designed to answer a very specific request that was coming from long-term fans of the role-playing franchise.

The official site of the game states that the new concept means that it is not necessary to bring a save from Origin or the second Dragon Age title into the new experience.

The Keep can be used to track all important choices and set decisions for all of them in order to create a state of the world that can feel familiar.

At the same time, gamers can experience with new settings and that increases the replayability of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Leah Shinkewski, a producer working on the title, and Fernando Melo, the director of online development, are quoted as saying that "The inspiration for the Dragon Age Keep started many years ago. For a franchise like Dragon Age, your impact on the world of Thedas is a core part of the experience – driven by the choices you make. And when Dragon Age II shipped, the complex nature of our plot flag system and the save import really hit home."

Complexity and ease of use

Dragon Age is a very complex game universe and players were able to affect the world in plenty of ways in both the first and the second titles in the series, which means that the Keep has a very large number of potential connections to track.

The two developers add, "With the help of the community we've worked to ensure that, going forward, the Keep will stand as the record of your impact in the world of Thedas – dutifully preserved and accurately represented in future products, limited only by creative aspiration of the game team."

The new Keep concept will use the voice of Varric Tethras and beautiful stylized animations to make the experience of creating a gamer's own version of Thedas an enjoyable one.

BioWare says that the number of world states created is so high that spending just one second looking at each of them would make a gamer 16,400 times older than the known universe.

The Keep for Dragon Age still does not have an official launch date.

Inquisition will be offered on November 18 in North America and three days later in Europe and can be played on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and last-gen consoles.
