Gamers will have to take a castle that's impregnable

The developers at BioWare have already suggested that Dragon Age: Inquisition will be a game that includes many locations across different political entities and the studio is now ready to reveal the new Redcliffe area, which is in Ferelden rather than in Orlais.

The almost ubiquitous Brother Genivi is the in-game scholar quoted on the official site, with the castle described using the words of his own In Pursuit of Knowledge: The Travels of a Chantry Scholar.

BioWare says that Redcliffe is a powerful castle that guards the only land route into Ferelden, which makes it very valuable to all those who control the kingdom and means that it is well protected.

The company explains that, “The castle, which despite being three times captured is popularly described as ‘unassailable’, also guards one of the largest and most prosperous towns in Ferelden. Redcliffe village is well situated near the mountain pass to Orzammar and the Orlesian border, and so serves as a center of foreign trade. For these reasons, Redcliffe is accounted an arling despite the smallness of the domain.”

They add, “The inhabitants of Redcliffe village are primarily fishermen or merchants who ship dwarven goods through the pass from Orlais to Denerim. When the entire village smells of smoked fish on certain late-autumn mornings, the merchants in their finery do their utmost to pretend otherwise.”

Presumably, gamers will have to travel to Redcliffe in order to make sure that the many problems affecting Orlais do not spill over into Ferelden and to secure the help of its own military against the threat coming from the Fade.

This will probably be the place where longtime fans of the Dragon Age franchise will also be able to interact with Alistair, who’s role in the new Inquisition title has been teased for some time, especially given the one as king of Ferelden.

The core story of the new role-playing game will focus on a demonic threat that’s coming into the world of humans through a major breach in the Veil that normally keeps the Fade away.

At the same time, players will have to deal with the consequences of the Orlesian civil war and with the conflict taking place between the Chantry, the Mages and the Templars.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be offered to gamers on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and current-gen consoles on October 7 of this year.
