The development team at BioWare has touched on many of the core elements of the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition and the reveal of the new Hinterlands area promises that more details are coming about the current war raging between the Templars and the Mages.

As always, the company quotes an in-game character, a former horsemaster for Arl Teagan Redcliffe, and his undelivered letter in order to show how a peaceful land has been affected by the on-going conflict.

BioWare states, “The farmers who live in the Hinterlands are good folk. Many of them left Redcliffe village because they couldn't bear to be there anymore, not after the Blight and the walking dead left so many bad memories. Now we've got apostates running around setting fire to anyone who looks at them sideways, and templars looting houses and cutting down those who protest as mage sympathizers.”

The horsemaster asks his former employer to send help in order to convince both the Mages and the Templars to reach a ceasefire, if a long-term peace is impossible.

He adds, “I suppose you're stretched thin, but anything you can do to lessen the burden of these poor folk would be much appreciated. I'll do as I can, and if your men need better mounts, say the word.”

Dragon Age: Inquisition will allow players to explore the ramifications of the decisions that they made at the end of the previous title in the series and try to find a solution to reconcile the Chantry, the Mages and the Templars.

The support of these factions and more will be required if the player wants to close down the breach in the Veil that separates the world of humans from the Fade, which allows demons to pour into the world.

The conflict between magic users and those seeking to imprison them is not the only one affecting the game world, although it is one of the most important.

The land of Orlais is at the moment torn apart by a civil war that pits the queen against powerful nobles.

BioWare has said that it will give players as much freedom as possible to make decisions about the most important moments of the game, which will have long-term repercussions on the world and the major characters.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and current-gen devices on October 7.
