The development team at BioWare has been introducing new characters for Dragon Age: Inquisition for the past few weeks, but now the studio is choosing to re-introduce one party member that has been first featured in Origins and is now returning to aid the gamer.

Leliana was one of the most mysterious presences in the first Dragon Age title, and gamers got to know a little about her role in the society of Orlais in a special downloadable content package.

For Inquisition, BioWare is giving her a much bigger part, which is in line with the role that she is playing as one of the most trusted advisers and spies for the Chantry, able to deliver both information and deadly arrows on its behalf.

BioWare states on the official site that “Most know her as ‘Sister Nightingale’ or ‘the Left Hand of the Divine’. To the rare friend, she is Leliana. They say she found faith amid darkness, and that her devotion to the Maker is matched only by her devotion to Divine Justinia V, a woman who is both mentor and savior.”

Leliana is very important for the story of Dragon Age: Inquisition because she has a lot of influence over the actions of the Chantry, who is engaged in a long term conflict with both the Mages and the Templars.

The studio adds, “Those who have earned her loyalty know her as a steadfast ally. But enemies of the Divine know to fear her, for she is the shadow behind the Sunburst Throne—the one who watches and waits, who strikes when her mark is most vulnerable and least suspecting.”

Leliana was focused on combat at range using a bow in Dragon Age: Origins, but it’s unclear whether she will have the same role in the new title.

We already know that gamers will also be able to recruit to their party characters like Vivienne, Cole, Solas, The Iron Bull, Dorian, Sera and Blackwall.

BioWare has also teased the possibility that Alistair, one of the party members from Origin that fans have always appreciated, might return for Inquisition, but it seems that he will not be directly playable.

The title will task gamers with closing down a breach in the Fade in order to stop demons from attacking the world of humans.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will be offered on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and current-gen consoles on October 7.
