Microtransactions are present but won't limit players

BioWare has started offering more and more details about the multiplayer mode in Dragon Age: Inquisition, highlighting that the cooperative action isn't going to affect the story or its ending, unlike in Mass Effect 3, and that, while there are microtransactions, there isn't a paywall to stop those who aren't paying for rewards to progress any further.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and for quite some time developer BioWare has kept focusing on the single-player campaign, which puts players in the shoes of the Inquisitor, a man or woman who needs to rally the world in order to oppose a big threat.

However, besides featuring an extensive single-player story campaign, BioWare and EA confirmed a few hours ago that a cooperative multiplayer mode was also going to be a part of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Now, as part of a FAQ on the official website, the two companies have set out to emphasize that the multiplayer is completely separate from the single-player campaign and won't affect it or its ending in any way.

"The SP campaign is separate from MP. In SP, you have the support of three specialists who can send agents to missions. MP characters are agents. At the start of a MP mission, you will hear one of the specialists explaining the goal of your mission."

"Our goal with Dragon Age multiplayer is not to affect your SP campaign. We simply want to give our fans the chance to play with their friends for the first time in the Dragon Age universe."

BioWare's previous title, Mass Effect 3, also had a cooperative multiplayer mode, but unlike in Inquisition, the performance of a player in the online experience had an impact on the game's conclusion, by providing it with a bigger Galactic Readiness score. As such, many felt that the studio was forcing them to indulge in the multiplayer campaign.

While the new mode strays from Mass Effect 3's similar experience, it will still feature microtransactions, as players can opt to buy Platinum currency and get chests of treasure instead of using the in-game gold.

However, BioWare is quick to point out that there is no paywall to stop those who aren't spending money from continuing to progress and have fun in the experience.

"Platinum is the name of the currency that you can buy with money. Our philosophy for MP—and we are adamant about it—is that you can buy anything with gold coins, which is the currency you get from dungeon-crawling. There will be no pay walls in Dragon Age multiplayer. Everything is accessible with gold coins. You can use premium currency, but you don't have to."

Dragon Age: Inquisition launches this November on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
