BioWare Executive Producer Mark Darrah and Creative Director Mike Laidlaw demoed the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition during this year's edition of the E3 convention taking place in Los Angeles, showing a few precious minutes of gameplay footage.

The gameplay demo and developer Q&A session covered a ton of subjects and offered a glimpse into the vibrant world of Inquisition, showing its beautiful environments and fearsome enemies and highlighting its action-packed battles.

During the cast, Laidlaw revealed that Dragon Age: Inquisition would take most gamers around 50 hours to complete, and the two BioWare veterans also showed off the tactical top-down view that players would get to make use of while coming up with the best way to lay waste to their enemies.

The tactical view allows gamers to issue various commands to their team, to coordinate strategies, and to respond to whatever happens on the battlefield in a timely manner.

The developers built a much larger world than ever before and added a lot of freedom of movement in order to let players explore it. As such, Dragon Age: Inquisition is the first game in the series where you will be able to jump, and verticality will play a large role in exploration.

The couple revealed that everything players do would in some way make their party more powerful or would strengthen the Inquisition as a whole (closing rifts and other such actions), and that gamers, as heads of a large organizations, would be able to perform feats that they couldn't otherwise.

Another step forward from previous installments in the series is the fact that while adventuring you accumulate a power currency which you can then spend in order to tackle the game's objectives however you see fit, instead of the traditional linear progression from point to point.

The developers also showed a battle against a mighty dragon, a huge beast that can only be downed by a group of characters' coordinated efforts. During the battle, one of the limbs of the creature was wounded, and the dragon started limping, and gamers will also be able to target its wings in order to prevent it from flying overhead, instead of the old targeting system which only allowed the entire entity to be specified as a target.

The additions in the game don't stop here, as Inquisition will feature the largest cast yet, as well as the most complex characters and deep relationship system yet.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is currently scheduled to come out on October 7, 2014, for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.
