Five talk options

The announcement of Dragon Age 2 made a lot of long time role playing game fans a bit weary of the direction that developer BioWare was choosing for its series. There are already voices who are saying that Mass Effect 2 is a poorer experience because it eliminated RPG elements like inventories and worry that Dragon Age, the more pure experience, might also be streamlined in order to make it appeal to a wider audience. But BioWare is promising that at least when it comes to dialog the characters will have more options than in Dragon Age: Origins.

On the official forums Craig Graff, a developer working on Dragon Age 2, has posted that, “We put up to 5 choice options and 5 investigate options per dialog node. There is also a difference between choices (where you are actually deciding something) and giving you the opportunity to express yourself in different ways (which I think is quite cool, but not something I believe we have released any details on yet).”

This comes as an answer to claims made in a IGN preview that suggested that Dragon Age 2 will not have the same amount of dialog options as the first game in the series. Lead desginer Mike Laidlaw also responded, saying that the dialog system for the role playing title is still being worked with more than three options included when characters communicate with one another.

Dragon Age 2 is set to arrive in February 2011 and BioWare has already offered a bit of information on what players can expect. The main protagonist will be called Hawke and his race will be set at human, although players will be free to choose if they want to play a male or female and determine his class. The story will be told from multiple points of view as various other characters talk about how the main characters went from being a refugee that escaped the assault on Lothering to one of the most powerful champions in the Dragon Age world.
