Science is constantly looking for ways to knock back a few years off the face without the need of going under the knife. Creams and lotions, it has been proven, can only hold back the hands of time for so much longer, which is why medicine needs to step up and offer women looking to grow old other than naturally a means of achieving their goal. Dr. Maurice Dray, for instance, has invented a ten-minute procedure that constitutes a facelift while also encouraging the natural production of collagen in the face, as the Daily Mail informs.

The procedure leaves no scarring and is not even remotely as painful as going under the knife. It lasts no longer than ten minutes and can cause some bruising that goes away after a few days. Its results become noticeable after about two months, peaking at about eight. Dr. Dray says it can literally hold off the need of going under the knife for about ten years if not more and can be used as a preemptive step against aging, as early as 30. It implies the injection of biphasic tricalcium phosphates (BTCPs), which come in the shape of micro-particles suspended in a hyaluronic-acid gel, into specific points on the face.

There is a certain amount of pain involved, though, despite the anesthetic cream that is applied on the skin beforehand, as the doctor shoots a scary-looking gun into the skin, injecting small doses of the chemicals right under it. He then proceeds to massage the face to make sure the filler is distributed evenly. Ten minutes later, the procedure is over and the patient can resume their daily routine, if they don’t mind the bruising, that is. Even the price, £450 a pop, makes Dr. Dray’s treatment better than the traditional surgical intervention, the Mail assures.

“Hyaluronic acid, a substance found in the body that helps to hydrate the skin, is the principal ingredient in many facefillers – it plumps out deep grooves and wrinkles. And like BTCP, it biodegrades over time. The two ingredients work by holding the face up while encouraging the body to produce natural facelifting collagen. The hyaluronic acid takes effect immediately. But the real improvement – the new tissue, the increase in collagen fibers and the improvement in elasticity – appears within six weeks and peaks at around six months.” the Mail writes.

“The effect is subtle. It won’t prevent you needing a facelift for ever but [it] can keep you looking younger for longer. It is suitable for men or women from about the age of 30.” Dr. Dray also says for the publication, recommending “a course of three treatments for maximum effect, six to eight months apart.”
