Developer Ian Page has released a major new version of MacTracker, adding all the new Apple products it lacked from its data base, as well slapping it with a new user interface, new import-export abilities, a brand new "History" category to show recently viewed models, and lots more.

MacTracker is a general purpose utility designed to offer detailed technical information on every Apple product ever to come out of Cupertino.

It offers the ability to save custom notes to each system window, includes links to in-depth articles on Apple’s Support section describing the hardware and software, and more.

The flagship feature of MacTracker 6.0 is undoubtedly the redesigned interface, which now lets users browse Apple products in using a multi-window system, and tabbed view for stuff like general details, software, memory and graphics, media, connections, expansions, history, and notes.

Newly added systems include MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011), MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011), MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011); iPhone 4 (CDMA); iPad 2 (Wi-Fi), iPad 2 (Wi-Fi + 3G GSM), and iPad 2 (Wi-Fi + 3G CDMA).

The Support Status for Apple's latest Vintage and Obsolete products has been updated as well.

Fans of the app will notice that Page even updated the icon, which still portrays an original Macintosh, but now features rounded edges, and extra glare.

As far as the app’s new abilities are concerned, MacTracker can now search within the info and Compare windows, and the type of comparison can now be changed on-the-fly in Compare.

A new "History" category shows recently viewed models, and users can now change the type of model for entries in "My Models," for which Ian Page also added the ability to import and export entries.

Apple Help based documentation is now included, and Classic Macintosh, Performa, and Power Macintosh categories are now sorted chronologically.

Finally, the now-code-signed application requires Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard) or later, which means OS X 10.4 (Tiger) users are stuck at MacTracker 5.2.3 Build 217 (released in October 2010).

MacTracker is also available in Apple's very own Mac App Store as a free download.
