A new version of iMovie is now available for download from the iTunes App Store. The new app works with the iPad 2, and brings a few improvements and tweaks for iPhone and iPod touch users.

According to its makers, iMovie lets you make a movie in minutes by adding video, photos, music, and sound effects.

The ability to add a theme, titles, and transitions is also built inside iMovie for iOS. The app integrates with various social networking services, allowing users to easily share their creations online.

Apple says it’s a universal app designed for iPad 2, iPhone 4, and iPod touch (4th generation). The Multi-Touch Precision Editor is an iPad only feature, while customers should also note that Apple only supports the second generation iPad with iMovie.

iMovie 1.2 also brings multitrack audio editing with 8 themed soundtracks and over 50 bundled sound effects, audio recording directly into the timeline, audio waveforms (another iPad-only feature), three new themes, and the ability to upload HD content directly to YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, and CNN iReport.

Other cool new enhancements include:

• AirPlay support for sharing to Apple TV (compatible only with second-generation Apple TV; requires iOS 4.3 or later). • Project transfer to your computer and compatible iOS devices through iTunes. • Ability to add titles on photos. • Option to add fade-in from black and fade-out to black. • Numerous enhancements, including trimming in Video Browser, in-use markers, video rotation, and more.

According to at least one report, some have found a workaround to get iMovie installed on first-generation iPads as well.

It appears the app can be easily installed, without a jailbreak, by using the iPhone Configuration Utility released by Apple earlier this week.

Officially, however, iMovie 1.2 for iOS is compatible with iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G and requires iOS 4.2.6 or later.
