Great Maine Food for iPad is now available on the iOS App Store for those who perk up at the mere mention of the words “Maine lobster.” Your first step to culinary heaven begins with the download link embedded below.

Developed by CulinartMedia for Down East, THE MAGAZINE OF MAINE, Great Maine Food for the iPad is currently available for download through the iTunes App Store for $4.99.

The app provides a complete guide of culinary eateries, institutions and must-see’s in Maine’s Southern Coast, Greater Portland, Mid-coast and Acadia.

It’s chock full of features, and includes exotic Maine recipes. It also serves as a comprehensive guide for those planning a visit to Maine.

While Great Maine Food has a relevant section about restaurants, food events, gourmet stores and inns in the coastal Maine area, the key section of the app contains more than a hundred recipes that can be prepared anywhere.

The recipes are based mostly on North Atlantic and Maine seafood, most of which is available anywhere in the US.

So, just as an Indian cookbook published in the US is not only for people traveling to India, this cooking app is of interest to any seafood lover, not just those who are planning a visit to Maine.

The key features of Great Maine Food include illustrated recipes, an ingredient calculator for varying number of portions, instructional cooking videos with cooking tips and step-by-step recipe preparation instructions, a shopping list, ingredient definitions complete with imagery, the ability to share on Facebook and email, Google Maps support with marked culinary destinations, and more.

Great Maine Food works only with the Apple iPad (both first and second-generation devices supported) and, according to the App Store description, it requires iOS 3.0 or later.

However, that should be iOS 3.2 or later, since that’s the lowest firmware version on the iPad.

Great Maine Food for iPad weighs in at 327 MB and is available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Lifestyle category.
