Become this year's best emerging photographic talent

American Photo is hosting the 2008 Emerging Photographers, which conducts a worldwide search to find the best emerging photographic talent. If you have an aesthetic sense, and are also pretty handy with a camera, why not take a few hefty shots, download the free trial version of Aperture 2, use the free Portfolio Review Plug-in for extended editing, and send in your work. Who knows, maybe this year you'll be featured as one of the top fifteen emerging photographers in the world.

"Each year, American Photo conducts a worldwide search to find the best emerging photographic talent. That's the goal of our EMERGING PHOTOGRAPHERS project. Finding up-and-coming photographers whose work is redefining the art. And getting them the exposure their work deserves," says the mag.

American Photo's goal is to identify "the most talented new photographers in every discipline". Categories range from photojournalism to fine art, commercial to nature photography. The magazine is already scouring websites and seeking nominations from experts throughout the photographic world, according to their latest post. "We want to see as much work from as many photographers as possible. Especially yours. If you think you're one of the next, great photographers, we encourage you to submit your own work for evaluation," American Photo adds.

The mag goes on explaining that, in order to do so, interested parties must use Aperture 2 and the free plug-in. Don't worry about having to use Aperture though - the free trial version of Apple's photography software will do just fine, American Photo assures. The publication, however, does ask that users limit their submission to "no more than ten images". Also, you must make your submissions by August 22, 2008, to qualify.

The work of the 12 finalists will be featured in American Photo's November/December 2008 issue. Readers will be able to see other top candidates featured throughout the year on the mag's website. "In addition, we'll showcase the work of one photographer in a special advertorial in the November/December issue, flying that talented individual to New York City for a special private American PHOTO event in December," American Photo notes.

To be able to submit your photos, you must first download the free 30-day trial of Aperture 2 , the Portfolio Review Plug-in , and, lastly, the plug-in FAQ. Good luck, and come back for a comment if you qualify.
