Apple has updated Xcode, the toolset targeting Mac OS X and iOS development, adding support for the latest iOS release, fixes for iOS Simulator and Core Data mapping, as well as other tweaks and fixes.

“Xcode 4 provides everything developers need to create great applications for Mac, iPhone, and iPad,” Apple explains.

The toolkit is available as a free download to members of the Mac and iOS Developer Programs from the Apple Developer website, or as a five-dollar purchase for anyone interested in taking a shot at writing code for Apple platforms.

A relatively new major version of the suite, Xcode 4 brings the tools to design, code, test, and debug within a single window, while the Xcode IDE analyzes the details of a project to identify mistakes in both syntax and logic, and even suggests fixes.

As noted above, Xcode 4.0.2 support iOS 4.3.2, the latest iOS firmware update for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices.

In addition to adding support for iOS 4.3.2, Xcode 4.0.2 includes the following code corrections:

- Fixed a bug in the iOS Simulator when running OpenGL ES apps - Fixed a bug handling some Core Data mapping models - Fixed a bug in LLVM compiler 2.0 that could cause apps to crash on iOS devices - Additional bug fixes and stability improvements

The changes documented in the previous incremental release of Xcode 4 (version 4.0.1) are also posted, for clarity’s sake.

Apple mentions the improved Assistant editor logic when switching among different file types, as well as half a dozen bug fixes for various core elements making up Xcode.

Weighing in at a hefty 4.25 GB, Xcode 4.0.2 is available for download from the link below, which takes you to the Mac App Store. To run the software, users need Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
