Apple’s digital toolset aimed iOS and Mac development has been updated with an incremental 4.0.1 release that focuses on improving Assistant editor logic, in addition to fixing a number of bugs reported by developers since the final 4.0 release of Xcode.

“Xcode 4 provides everything developers need to create great applications for Mac, iPhone, and iPad,” Apple states.

For those who’ve reached Xcode 4.0.1 through the Mac App Store (or the Mac App Store preview in a web browser), Apple notes that “Xcode 4 is also available to members of the Mac and iOS Developer Programs from the Apple Developer website.”

The tech giant assures code-savvy individuals that Xcode 4 has been specifically designed to make it easy for them to “write better apps.”

The Mac maker outlines some of the key features, mentioning the unified user interface where design, coding, testing, and debugging can be done in a single window, as well as the Xcode IDE, which analyzes the details of a project to identify mistakes in both syntax and logic.

In addition to Xcode IDE, the $4.99 toolset includes Instruments, iOS Simulator, the latest Mac OS X and iOS SDKs, and hundreds of other features.

All this only works on a Mac with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard installed, Apple notes.

As noted above, the latest Xcode release incorporates improvements to Assistant editor logic, as well as multiple code corrections, all detailed by Apple in the changelog to follow:
