Developers can visit the Microsoft Download Center and access a software development kit covering a range of Windows Server offerings.

By leveraging the Windows Server Solutions SDK devs will be able to build applications for the latest releases of Windows Home Server, Windows Small Business Server, Windows Storage Server and Windows Multipoint Server.

Like all SDKs offered by the software giant, the Windows Server Solutions SDK is available for download free of charge.

What the Redmond company is actually providing is the 1.3 MB Windows Server Solutions SDK Installer designed to deploy the actual software development kit.

“It has Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 samples and templates that a developer can use to easily create applications for Windows Home Server 2011, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials, Windows Storage Server 2008 R2, and Windows Multipoint Server 2011,” Microsoft explained.

“The SDK also has online content that includes an API reference and a detailed How-To walkthrough with code snippets for all major extensibility areas that are listed in “Windows Server Solutions” on the MSDN Library website.”

The Windows Server Solutions SDK is set up to work in concert with Visual Studio 2010, and does not feature support for Windows releases launched before XP.

“Download and save the Windows Server Solutions SDK Installer to your local hard disk. You must read and accept the Microsoft Software License Terms when you install Windows Server Solutions SDK Installer,” the company said.

Microsoft also has a portion of the MSDN portal dedicated to Windows Server Solutions, and focusing on the SDK.

Developers can easily access a range of information about the SDK, from getting started to using it to creating and deploying add-in packages.

At the same time, the software giant provides devs with the detail Windows Server Solutions API Reference, which is bound to come in handy.
