14 DAY TRIAL // Windows Live Messenger 2011 is not the only part of Windows Live Essentials that users need to upgrade. Fact is that Microsoft has released new versions of all of the suite’s components save just a couple. Customers running Windows 7 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) have been able to grab the latest iteration of Windows Live Essentials 2011 since the start of October 2010.
Now they will also need to upgrade the majority of components to Build 15.4.3508.1109, which was just released.
While the software giant has been mute on the update it shipped to Windows Live Essentials, it appears that Build 15.4.3508.1109 qualifies for a QFE 1 (Quick Fix Engineering), according to third party reports.
This means that the refresh is designed to resolve a number of issues which survived past the RTW milestone. Obviously, the QFE has been set up to fix bugs in bulk, and it’s advisable that users running the previous version of Windows Live Essentials 2011 download and upgrade in order to improve their experience.
Windows Live Mesh and Windows Live Family Safety seem to be the only two components that did not receive an update this time around.
According to users that already upgraded to Windows Live Essentials 2011 Build 15.4.3508.1109, some of the more visible fixes are related to Writer and Mail, and also to scenarios involving running the suite alongside Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) Beta.
Customers that made the jump to Build 15.4.3508.1109 have not reported the introduction of any new features into Windows Live Essentials 2011.
Most probably, there are no new features to speak of in the QFE, as was the case with previous Quick Fix Engineering releases, despite the version jump.
